Glutino Gluten Free Macaroni & Cheese

Since my kids do not have celiac, (fingers crossed they never will), I don’t have the necessity of purchasing kid-friendly GF frozen meals. So in the interest of our website visitors who have children with celiac, I decided to review a kid-friendly product and naturally the classic “Mac & Cheese” came to mind.  Glutino offers a “new and improved” recipe, so I thought I would give it a try. I used the microwave method (8 min.), and followed the detailed instructions to the letter, to avoid under or overcooking.  The result was well cooked, plump noodles smothered in a delicious, creamy blend of Monterey Jack, Cheddar and Parmesan cheeses.  I’m not kidding when I tell you I walked back into the kitchen twice to check the package to verify it was indeed gluten-free! Yes, it’s true. Before celiac I was known, on occasion, to dip a fork into my kid’s bowl of Mac & Cheese, and I can tell you Glutino’s GFree Mac & Cheese has a much better flavor and texture than the wheat version.  I asked my kids to taste Glutino’s, and they gave it a thumbs up!  My only recommendation is to be certain you follow the exact directions to serve it at just the right temperature … I don’t think it would taste as yummy if it were under heated.  Maybe that is why there is a notation on the package “New Cooking Instructions”, perhaps the prior cooking instructions (and former recipe) did not yield the newer tastier results. If you or your kids tried this product in the past, and were underwhelmed, I would definitely suggest giving it another try, I think Glutino got it right this time! The product contains 64 g of carbohydrates (it’s pasta!), and 600 mg of sodium, but also provides 30% calcium, 6% Vitamin A, 2% Vitamin C. It contains soy and milk.
