Sweet Christine’s Gluten-Free Bakery, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania – Review

a basketful of GF goodies courtesy of Sweet Christine’s!

Thank you Sweet Christine’s Bakery, of Southeastern (Kennett Square) Pennsylvania, for sending CC a wonderful assortment of gluten-free baked goodies to sample!

Founder Christine Ruggio, a mom and diagnosed celiac started out baking in her home kitchen. After perfecting her gluten-free baking formulas she opened a retail bakery (in 2008) which is a dedicated, certified gluten-free and nut-free facility (as is their off-site manufacturing facility). Sweet Christine’s received training through the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness’ GREAT (Gluten-Free Resource Education Awareness Training) program  … way-to-keep your celiac and gluten-sensitive customers safe, Sweet Christine’s!

Baked goods (available at the bakery and on-line) include: Artisan Breads, Sandwich Breads, Raisin Breads, Dinner Rolls, Hamburger & Hotdog buns, Baguettes, Cupcakes, Brownies and, ooh ah … Chocolate Lava Cake!  The “goods” are made with organic ingredients and are free of trans fat, artificial flavorings and preservatives. You can find Sweet Christine’s products in several retail stores throughout the mid-Atlantic region, in the PA bakery location and on-line (also keep an eye out for them at sports stadiums, including Colorado Rockies, Pittsburgh Penguins, Phillies, to name a few).

[Ingredients – “We use only the best nature has to offer. The high quality ingredients we use are naturally sourced and subject to minimal processing. The ingredients we choose represent so much – our belief that real flavor comes straight from nature, our goal of making the most effective products for consumers without resorting to anything artificial” Sweet Christine’s.]

The Chocolate Chip Cookie (6 in a pk. for $8.99) & Brownie (6 in a pk. for $9.99) were thick, chewy and delicious! I preferred the taste of the cookie which was filled with large pieces of chocolate chips and my boys favored the brownie …

consumed within minutes!

SC’s Sandwich Bread .. flanking another brand of GF bread!

Sandwich Bread($9.00)

Loaf was cut into decent sized slices …

One of the best PB&J’s ever!

a rarity for gluten-free bread!

The bread was fluffy and of good taste and texture.  I toasted the slices for some sandwiches, but also enjoyed one or two … sans toasting!

I’d love to try Sweet Christine’s Artisan breads and flaxseed muffins!

Enjoyed the Baguette ($4.00)

While you can certainly use the baguette as a club sandwich, I decided to make “Crostini” (sliced into small pieces, added garlic, basil and tomato sauce and toasted in the oven). They came out perfectly crusted on the outside and softer in the middle!

Thin 8″ Pizza

8” Thin Pizza Crust (vegan)  ($15, pack of 6)

I brushed the crust with olive oil, added crushed garlic, basil, cheese and sliced mini-meatballs, slipped it into the oven and baked at 450 for about 7 minutes – delish! The crust is thin, which makes it very versatile. You can use it as a wrap, to make a quesadilla, or fill with something sweet (like a dessert crepe)! I initially used a fork and knife to cut the pizza, but ended up bringing the sides together and eating it like a wrap. Larger 12” size pizza crusts are also available. If you prefer your pizza thicker (though less versatile!), perhaps you could request a special order.

Thank you Sweet Christine’s

Enjoyed sampling!

Tower of PB&J!

  1. Great Review! I think I will be placing my order soon for the sandwich bread. I’m always looking few a new one to try, because I haven’t been very happy with what I have found so far.
