Bishops to discuss Celiac Disease & Sacraments at November Conference in Baltimore

According to The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will be meeting on November 10th through 13th for it’s annual fall General Assembly.

Among other topics, the Bishops will discuss the possible update of a 1995 document relating to those with Celiac Disease or gluten sensitivity who are enable to partake in the celebration of the sacraments.

“Among the liturgical items to be considered by the bishops is a revision to the Guidelines for the Celebration of the Sacraments with Persons with Disabilities. A request has been made to update the 1995 document in light of medical developments such as the prevalence of Celiac Disease, which prevents an individual from eating wheat and can therefore make reception of Communion difficult.”
