Gluten Freedom is the new book written by Dr. Alessio Fasano, MD, the founder and director of the Center for Celiac Research at Massachusetts General Hospital, and world-renowned pediatric gastroenterologist. The book is co-authored by Susie Flaherty, former senior editor at the University of Maryland and currently the communications director of the Center for Celiac Research.  Dr. Fasano is a leading expert in the field of Celiac Disease (CD) and Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) and Gluten Freedom is an absolute must-read for anyone with Celiac Disease or Gluten Sensitivity.

“Thus, at the beginning of this journey, I had to explain constantly to my colleagues how to spell the word “celiac.” When I started writing this book several years ago, I was using an older version of Microsoft Word. Every time I wrote the word “celiac,” it was underlined in red, which is the symbol of a misspelled or unrecognized word. Now I use a new version of Microsoft Word that recognizes “celiac” in its spelling dictionary. The word celiac has finally made it into the popular lexicon. And although it might seem like a small thing, to me it’s a fitting symbol of how the awareness of celiac disease and gluten-related disorders has grown so much in such a brief span of time”.  We have Dr. Fasano and his team to thank for putting Celiac Disease on the US medical map, convincing physicians that this auto-immune disease actually existed in North America!

Gluten Freedom is presented in four parts, each part containing several chapters filled with essential information on CD and NCGS. Dr. Fasano writes in easy to understand language, and makes even the most biological concepts compelling!

(from book cover) “Distinguishing scientific fact from myth, Gluten Freedom explains the latest research, diagnostic procedures, and treatment/diet recommendations, helping consumers make the best choices for themselves and their families. Gluten Freedom also discusses important nutritional implications for behavior-related diagnoses such as autism and conditions such as depression, anxiety, and “foggy mind”.

Chapters include: “Gluten Gets Into the Gut – and Other Places”; The Spectrum of Gluten-Related Disorders; Getting the Right Diagnosis; Gluten-Free Cooking and Dining; Pregnancy and the Gluten-Free Diet; Getting Through College Gluten-Free; Gluten in the Golden Years; New Treatments and Therapies and much more.

The book also offers valuable information on how to live a healthy, gluten free lifestyle, and includes recipes!

  1. Thank you all for entering our Giveaway of Dr. Fasano’s book. If you did not win, I still urge you to read his book. I believe it is a must-read for every patient diagnosed with CD or Gluten-Sensitivity (or parents of)!

  2. Comment * I was diagnosed 9 months ago and I read every day, trying to educate myself on how to be healthy and happy in my gluten-free world. I would love a copy of the book because once I finish it, I will share what I’ve learned with all my friends!

  3. Comment *I am a newly diagnosed Celiac. I am trying to learn as much as I can about this disease. I would love to win this book!

  4. Comment *I would like to read this book because I was diagnosed with Celiac early this year, and I am still learning, and yet others are coming to me with questions. So I need to have the right answers. Thank you.

  5. I would not want to decide whether or not to give a book to an adult over a child with Celiac. All I can do is leave my comment. I am a newly diagnosed Celiac facing an Endoscopy this Friday. My husband is on deployment, and Tricare won’t cover a referral for a Nutrionist. I lost my job due to my low weight and not being able to work my shift; and I’m in healthcare. Either way I will get your book as I research this Disease on a daily basis.

  6. I’d like to learn how to reduce my family’s gluten intake, if not eliminate it altogether. Thanks for the chance to educate myself!

  7. My 12 year old was diagnosed 3 years ago. She responded well the first couple of years and now she suffers most every day. We’ve spent the past year trying to figure out why. There is nothing worse than watching your child suffer and having doctor after doctor not relieve her pain. I would trade places in a minute to end her suffering.

  8. I’d love to gain more information after seeing Dr. Fasano speak at a conference in April.

    • Cassi, you are the lucky winner of this wonderful book! You will be contacted via email. Thank you for entering our giveaway.

  9. I always want up to date information to help share on my gluten free kansas fb page!

Comment * With two kids with celiac disease, I am my children’s health advocate. I bought the Clinician’s guide that Dr. Fasano edited, which I have read and discussed with their pediatricians and specialists. This book will help me to better understand the everyday impact, and to be as prepared as I can be for my kids’ well-being.

  11. Comment * I would love to win this book! 🙂

Comment *. I’ve been wanting this book for a long time to help my child learn to navigate through life with NCGS. Hearing Dr. Fasano in person is on our bucket list!

  13. I would love to win this book because there is so much I still have to learn about gluten-related diseases and being gluten free.

  14. I would love to win this amazing book to help with my struggles as a newly diagnosed celiac. I have found it hard to know exactly what im dealing with and the constant sickness is ruining my life. I would love to be educated, get myself better and be able to play footy with my son…

  15. I would love to win this book so I can educate others better about my lifestyle and learn more about it myself!

I would like to win a copy of Gluten Freedom by Alessio Fasano because I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in August of 2013. I have all ready learned so much about Celiac Disease, but I would like to learn even more. I have heard a lot of great things about this book and I haven’t been able to come around a copy of it for myself yet. I know that if I win this book, it will help me learn more about my disease and it will lead me to help others learn and understand Celiac Disease. Thank you.

  18. Would love to get a copy of these book! I have heard great things and always like to stay up to date with CD-GF info!
