Individuals with Celiac are at Increased Risk of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease compared to the General Population, according to study

Researchers from the United States and Sweden conducted a population-based cohort study and based on study results have concluded individuals with celiac disease are at increased risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease compared to the general population.

CONCLUSION: (posted on PubMed.com)

“Individuals with celiac disease are at increased risk of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease compared to the general population. Excess risks were highest in the first year after celiac disease diagnosis, but persisted through 15 years beyond diagnosis with celiac disease.”
